Shattered Glass

- I enjoyed watching this movie alot.  It was different than the usuall comedy/action film i would regularly watch.  It was a good angle on journalism and it showed me how putting out false information can come back to hurt you in the long run.  I was very interested every day while watching the movie and couldn't wait till the next class to watch the next part.  I would enjoy watching more movie of this style as it is right in the same area as my career choice.

- I liked this class alot. Every day there was something new that we did to keep us interested.  I liked the idea of creating a blog, it was something we could help ourselves stay organized with.  I especially liked watching the movie and the unit where we wrote newspaper articles.  I didn't like when we were learning about types of journalism when there were the days we took notes.  The photoshop was interesting and somethin unique to do.

Editorial

The Boston Celtics took an early exit this year from the playoffs in surprising fashion.  Early in the series they seemed like they had a very good chance at advancing but as the series went on the youthful Miami Heat proved to be too much.  The Boston Celtics had many injuries throughout the playoffs including an elbow injury to their all-star point guard Rajon Rondo.  The Celtics have a young gunner in Jeff Green but in order to make a push pass the Heat next season they’re going to need to pick up a few more young legs to keep up with the Heat and to give Pierce, Garnett, and Allen some breaks.  The aged Celtics couldn’t keep up with the younger James, Wade, Chalmers and Jones.  Also, the trade the Celtics made earlier in the year had a positive but it also came with some negatives.  They did pick up Jeff Green to give some rest to Allen and Pierce but it came at the loss of Kendrick Perkins.  Perkins was an original member of the “ubuntu” group and was a heavy anchor in the Celtics defense.  He was able to get 10-12 rebounds a night and provide an inside presence when Garnett was getting a rest.  The Heat were able to attack the basket all series without having to worry about anyone inside the paint stepping up to stop them.  Another problem the Celtics had during this series was figuring out how to calm a run and keep the game under control.  In game 5 the Celtics had a 7 point lead with 5 minutes to go in the game.  A James Jones three pointer gave the Heat momentum as they used the crowd to get back into the game and put the Celtics to rest.  The Celtics need to find a way to be able to weather these runs and stay in games.  While Pierce has the power to put a team on his back, he wasn’t able too this series costing the Celtics big time.  For next season Boston also needs to find a way to stay healthy.  With the old body’s they have they must do anything they can to stay injury free as that has a big impact on them towards the end of the season.  With them out of the playoffs though it’s now onto the offseason where they need to fix a few things before the start of next season.

1,200 Word Final Draft

With the school year ending soon and the summer right around the corner, many students are hyped and excited for another summer break.  “I’m excited for this summer, our senior year summer is finally here and I’m going to live it up to the fullest,” said senior Hunter Abramson.  The summer is a great time to spend time with friends, go to the beach, play some volleyball, and do other activities that our cold weather here in Minnesota doesn’t allow us to do.  Many other folks will be attending numerous Minnesota Twins games at the brand new Target Field.  Also the nighttimes will be filled with many bonfires as that is a hot attraction come summer.
The most anticipated event of the summer is the beach volleyball season.  “I enjoy playing beach volleyball because it’s a great way to get a tan and hang out with friends,” says senior volleyball player Jack Yakowicz.  Many players take their talents to Johnny Cake Ridge Park where many intense volleyball games go down in the summer.  If you’re just looking for a fun time there are many beaches around the area where you can play fun pick-up games and then cool off in the lake afterwards.  Some of the most popular places are Schultz Lake, Crystal Lake, and Lake Marion.  If you head over to Lake Marion there are over 6 volleyball courts to play on as well as a long shore of sand and some great water to swim in.  In a typical beach volleyball match you can usually play competitively or you can just play for fun.  Playing for fun is good when you have a large group of people or if everyone just wants to relax and have a good time.  If you are going to play competitively, games will get the most intense if you play 3 on 3.  In a typical 3 on 3 match games will be played up till 21 and you must win by 2 points.  If you really want to get competitive you can turn games into a 3, 5, or 7 game series.  These matches get very heated as you lay bragging rights and pride on the line.
If you’re looking for something more relaxing a main attraction for Minnesotans is downtown at Target Field.  Target Field is an experience you will never forget as it attracts even a fan that knows nothing about baseball.  “Attending a Minnesota Twins game at Target Field was one of the most fun things I did all summer long, everything about the stadium is amazing,” says avid Twins fan Hunter Abramson.  Target Field allows fans to bring in food and drinks making it a very easy place to eat at where you don’t have to put such a hurt on your wallet.  If you’re planning on eating inside of the stadium there are many food choices as well.  There are Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Chicken Strips, French Fries, and never ending options for food at the ballpark.  The other advantage of Target Field is that there are no bad seats in the stadium.  Compared to the Metrodome where you may be stuck in a spot you can’t see, Target Field allows every seat a great view of the game.  Another benefit of the field is that there are many open concourse areas that allow for meeting up with friends and family, and chatting with people that share the same interests as you.
Spending time with friends is a very important part of the summer as you are with them mostly all of the time.  Over the summer you can make lifelong friendships with certain people and create memories that will stay with you for a lifetime.  Whether you’re hanging out at a house, going swimming, playing games, or any other activity, being with friends makes these moments better.  One place where you can meet many people and hang out with all of your friends is at bonfires.  Many people show up at bonfires and it is a great way to spend a summer night by getting together with people, roasting some s’mores and having a good time.  “Bonfires at night are one of my favorite parts about the summer, being able to get together with all your friends in one spot and enjoy the summer night, it doesn’t get better,” said senior Hunter Abramson.  Many people have the same thoughts as Hunter that bonfires are one of the hottest attractions with the summer season.  Another relaxing thing to do on maybe some of the bad weather days is to head out to the Mall of America.  The mall is a great place to spend all the hard earned money you’ve earned from your job, whether it’s on food, accessories, or clothing.  The mall is also a great place to meet up with people as well as for meeting new people.  “I enjoy going to the mall for many reasons, it’s a great way to burn some time, hang out with people, as well as buying new clothing,” says senior shopper Jack Yakowicz.  Even if you don’t have the time to go out to the Mall of America, the Burnsville Mall is a great secondary option.  It has mostly everything the Mall of America has except it’s a little smaller and it will not be as crowded as the Mall of America is.  Either way, both malls are a great way to spend your time throughout the summer.
For many guys and girls around Eastview, a great way to relax and have some fun is to go golfing.  “Going golfing is a great way to use some energy and relax at the same time,” says senior golfer Jack Yakowicz.  Some of the more popular courses are Valleywood, Parkview, Emerald Greens, and many others around the metro area. Most courses have a putting green and/or a driving range to sharpen your skills when you’re not on the course.  When you finish your round, the clubhouse offers great food and drinks to calm yourself down after a long day of golf.  Another hotspot for teens is Lifetime Fitness.  While at Lifetime you’re guaranteed to see someone you know as it is always crowded with teens trying to get in a good workout.  Lifetime offers weightlifting, basketball, volleyball, yoga, and the very popular hot tub.  “The hot tub at Lifetime is one of my favorite and most relaxing places to go, there are always people to talk to and it’s always a good time,” says senior Hunter Abramson.  If you’re looking for something competitive and intense to do, head down to the basketball courts on Monday and Wednesdays where you can jump in a game of pick-up ball.  The games are usually very heated as you battle to stay on the court with a win.
The summer is right around the corner as the weather is starting to turn for the better.  Along with the summer comes a great few months to spend with friends and get to know new people.  With all the free time there are endless options on how to spend it and be sure to make the most of it, because before you know it the snow will again be falling and the cold weather will be back.

Final Hard News Story

The NBA playoffs are heating up and becoming interesting as the first rounds are coming to a close.  The number 8 seed Memphis Grizzlies are up 3-2 on the number one seed San Antonio Spurs.  The Boston Celtics have already moved on to the second round as they swept the New York Knicks.  Kevin Durant has been playing out of his mind as he scored 41 points to lead the Oklahoma Thunder passed the Denver Nuggets and into the second round. Derrick Rose continues to build his bid for MVP as he is averaging 27 points, 6 assists and 3 steals in the playoffs thus far. Miami ended the 76ers run as they beat them in game 5 to advance.  New Orleans looks to knock off the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers behind the terrific play of point guard Chris Paul.

These playoffs so far have been all about the underdog teams making a stand.  "I feel like these playoffs are better than most years because we have two number eight seeds competing against the one seeds," said Hunter Abramson.  The Memphis Grizzlies have been playing great behind their aggressive post play of Zach Randolph.  He is playing well on both ends of the floor and is creating an energy that all the players can follow.  The Spurs however have been struggling so far but came up with a huge win in game 5 behind a couple of timely shots by Manu Ginobili and Gary Neal.  If the Memphis Grizzlies can hang on and take this series it would be a huge upset in the playoffs and create a buzz surrounding the Grizzlies. “The Memphis Grizzlies have made even the non basketball watchers turn on to see them make history,” said basketball fan Sam Ross.  A series between the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks, which many thought could take up to seven games to decide, ended quickly in a four game sweep by the Celtics.  “The New York Knicks were a disappointment because of the talent they have on their roster they still weren’t able to pull out at least one victory,” says Hunter Abramson.  The New York Knicks, with all-stars Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire, were thought to have a chance at going deep into the playoffs.  With the depth and experience of the Celtics roster however, they ended any hope Knicks had at making it past the first round.  The Chicago Bulls looked as if they might be in for a longer series than expected against the Indiana Pacers, but they proved to just be too much to handle taking the series in five games.  The Chicago Bulls, behind the play of Derrick Rose look to make a push at the NBA Finals in hopes of bringing back the days of Jordan and Pippen.  According to Sam Ross, “without Derrick Rose the Bulls wouldn’t stand a chance.”  He is carrying his team by making plays for everyone else, getting his own points as well as bringing the energy night after night to help lead his team to victory.  A series that is very intriguing coming up in the second round is the matchup between two powerhouses with the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics.  This series features some of the league’s best players like Lebron James, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.  Anytime that many superstars step onto the floor you’re guaranteed to be in for a great game.  These two teams have had close games all season long and don’t expect this series to be any different.  The playoffs are just heating up and we are sure in for a good month of NBA basketball.
